Colourguard

The Colourguard (or in 'American' - Colorguard) provides an additional visual aspect to the performance of the Drumline. Performing with a variety of different tools (e.g. flags, sabres, mock rifles...), the role of the Colourguard has evolved over time. Traditionally the Colourguard was a small team of soldiers charged with the responsibility of protecting the flag (or colours) of their country on the battlefield.

Today, the role of the Colourguard has shifted from that of protector, to more one of performer. Several overseas corps still use the Colourguard in the protector role as well as the performer role, but it is typically the latter of the two roles which the focus is placed on.

The Auckland Regional Drumline has a specific interest in developing a unit of members to take on the responsibility of the Colourguard role. While the eventual intention is to be able to field a team able to rival that in ability of overseas divisions, we are also interested in adding a unique New Zealand touch.

If you're interested in becoming part of a new and exciting team, have an interest in cheerleading, marching teams, dancing or any combination of those, drop us a line and pop along to a practice session.

Like the Drumline, the direction of the Colourguard is based on the feedback of its members - it is the members that make it what it is. Become yet another turning point in the history of New Zealand Marching Percussion!
